Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is one of the famous methods used to calculate the location of an object inside a building.
This method maps the wireless signals’ RSSI in the building and creates a lookup table that acts as a reference for the location calculation process.
As such, fingerprinting requires onetime site calibration as part of the setup process.
The main advantage of the fingerprinting method is the accuracy it provides over the legacy methods (such as tri-angulation). However, fingerprinting introduces new challenges and limitations.
Fingerprinting is sensitive to the site topology. changes of the topology may affect the accuracy, and may require the need to recalibrate the site (or part of it).
For large buildings the calibration process may be painful and furthermore it may create a large lookup table that requires high computing power.
iDRiSi has addressed those limitations and others and came up with an improved fingerprinting method.
