Technology overview – Fingerprinting

  • Fingerprinting is one of the famous methods used to calculate the location of an object inside a building.
  • This method maps the wireless signals’ RSSI in the building and creates a lookup table that acts as a reference for the location calculation process.
  • As such, fingerprinting requires onetime site calibration as part of the setup process.
  • The main advantage of the fingerprinting method is the accuracy it provides over the legacy methods (such as tri-angulation). However, fingerprinting introduces new challenges and limitations.
  • Fingerprinting is sensitive to the site topology. changes of the topology may affect the accuracy, and may require the need to recalibrate the site (or part of it).
  • For large buildings the calibration process may be painful and furthermore it may create a large lookup table that requires high computing power.
  • iDRiSi has addressed those limitations and others and came up with an improved fingerprinting method.
  • Those improvements are filed as patents
